This module will introduce learners to the concepts of climate change, its causes, impacts and appropriate adaptation and mitigation strategies. It will cover the core debates that address myths peddled by climate change denialists and anti-environmentalism, as well as evolutions and distinctions between climate action and climate justice.

- Session 1This session will introduce learners to the concept of climate justice, principles that underly it and the different frames and approaches to achieving climate justice particularly in Africa and global south. It will also cover how climate justice is captured in the UNFCCC and related processes (Kyoto protocol, and Paris Agreement).1
- Session 2Lessons from the past and emerging issues (environmentalism, climate change denialism and anti-environmentalism: truths and myths; contemporary and future international climate controversies).1
- Session 3This session will cover PACJA’s experience as a leading Pan African Civil Society Climate Justice Advocate. It will include the circumstance of its creation, the alliance’s approach, the challenges it has faced, and the lessons learnt.1

- Session 5This session proposes several criteria that can be used to assess the effectiveness and limitations of different approaches and mechanisms to address the climate crisis. Learners will then work in groups to apply these criteria to selected approaches and mechanisms such as carbon offset schemes (REDD+, carbon capture and storage, CDM, soil carbon), climate smart agriculture, agroecology and different market mechanisms.3
