It will also cover how climate justice is captured in the UNFCCC and related processes (Kyoto protocol, and Paris Agreement).
Lessons from the past and emerging issues (environmentalism, climate change denialism and anti-environmentalism: truths and myths; contemporary and future international climate controversies).
This session will cover PACJA’s experience as a leading Pan African Civil Society Climate Justice Advocate. It will include the circumstance of its creation, the alliance’s approach, the challenges it has faced, and the lessons learnt.
This session proposes several criteria that can be used to assess the effectiveness and limitations of different approaches and mechanisms to address the climate crisis. Learners will then work in groups to apply these criteria to selected approaches and mechanisms such as carbon offset schemes (REDD+, carbon capture and storage, CDM, soil carbon), climate smart agriculture, agroecology and different market mechanisms.
